Russell E. Miller, Jr. was absent from the body and present with the Lord on Feb. 16, 2020. He was loved deeply by his family, and we are missing the fellowship we had with him. There is a hole in our family tree, but we are all waiting to see him again in our Father’s house where there are many mansions. He now gets to watch as the Lord prepares a place for us all who know Him as our personal savior as Russell did. We wouldn’t be surprised if Russell was working on some additional rooms with a big jug of coffee right now. Russell was a hard worker, and he was very proud to show off the fruits of his labor. He thoroughly enjoyed engaging in hard work and creating masterpieces with his masonry skills. He was funny, particular about his shirts, a cell phone genius, often times serious and enjoying a good debate, and he loved spaghetti dinners…and he could write—boy, could Russell write. He journaled in such a way that one would think he was reading from the personal diary of William Byrd II. Russell’s day-to-day entries appear formulaic at times ⎯ but he recorded his meals, the weather, his daily purchases, opinions about people and life, yet in listing and commenting on the day’s events, he leaves behind treasured journals for his family to cherish. Russell found his place at the ocean front among the urban dwellers, and we have come to know them as a beautiful part of our lives and a part of Russell’s community family. In honor of Russell’s name, please consider giving to local organizations in Virginia Beach that help to provide for those who are temporarily without a home and in need of shelter and food. Please bless us with your presence for his memorial service on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2020 at 2:00 PM and bring your stories and memories.
