Stella Ann Braxton Ricks passed away peacefully on October 26, 2018 with family by her side in Virginia Beach, VA.
A graveside service at Conway Town Cemetery will be held on Saturday November 3, 2018, at 11 am. The cemetery is located at the intersection of N. Church St and Hundley Circle, across from Conway Baptist Church, in Conway, North Carolina.
Stella was born April 1, 1935 in Scotland Neck, NC to Charlie Guy Braxton and Stella Lee Braxton. That afternoon, her four older sisters brought home friends from school to see the new baby to prove it wasn’t an April Fools prank! She was anything but an April Fool; she is fondly remembered as sensible, practical, thoughtful, and loyal. She was always a strong and supportive military wife, especially during the years when her husband was stationed overseas with the US Air Force and she cared for their children.
Stella loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren, and enjoyed the holidays with lots of home-cooked food, presents, and story-telling. She was a fantastic cook, but friends and family always knew her secret ingredients were love and patience. Her thoughtfulness was legendary. Her birthday cards, notes, phone calls and considerate gestures were appreciated by so many.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Billy Barkley Ricks; daughters Lyndia Ricks Bernet and Barbara Ricks; grandchildren Lucas Barkley Bernet, Courtney Graf Bernet, and Sarah Katherine Bernet; sister Emily Patricia Olsen. She was preceded in death by her daughter Sandra Ricks Wingler, her parents Charlie and Stella Braxton, and sisters, Mildred Eloise Edmonds, Lucy Lee Watson, Charlotte Rose Holmes, and Joyce Hope Morgan.
Arrangements by Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5033 Rouse Dr. in Virginia Beach, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity in her name.
