Theresa Anne Nixon

January 25, 1948 - June 22, 2020

Chesapeake – Theresa Anne Nixon, 72, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 22, 2020. Born in Norfolk, she was the daughter of the late William “Rex” Jones and Mary E. Jones and was predeceased by her brothers, Malcolm Dail and William “Roby” Jones, and other loved ones.

A beloved mom and nana, she is survived by her son and daughter, William “Bubba” Smith (Stephanie) and Cindy Smith; two granddaughters, Melissa Smith Carroll (Jeremy) and Danielle Smith; five great-grandchildren, Collin Walker, and Caleb, Elinor, Emma, and Carsten Carroll; two aunts, E. Faye Brown and Margaret Hathaway, and their families; and a nephew, Brian Dail. By the blending of families, Theresa gained three more grandchildren and a dear friend; Kody, Brody, and Skylar Comparto, and Lois Dunlow. She loved each of us dearly.

Theresa was a member of The Rescue Church, Portsmouth. She cherished her friends and Christian brothers and sisters. Her dearest friend, Renée Copley, was so faithful to her and loved her well. Theresa overflowed with gratitude for even the smallest expressions of love. She didn’t take life for granted and never missed an opportunity to tell of God’s goodness. She was faithful, despite her health, to be with her family whenever she could.

A memorial service will be held at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 929 S. Battlefield Blvd., Chesapeake, with a reception to follow on Thursday, July 23, 2020 at 6:00 pm. Please share a memory with the family at www.altmeyerfh.com.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made toward arrangements to honor Theresa’s life at www.tmcfunding.com.
