Thomas Charles Kuch

Thomas Charles Kuch, 64, passed away on 29 July 2021, at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth.

He was born in Portland, Maine in 1956 to Austin Merrill and Lois Helen (Willette) Kuch.

Tom grew up in Willimantic, Connecticut. In 1974, he enlisted in the United States Navy at the age of 17 as a Commissaryman. Tom met his wife, Laura Norman, at NAS Oceana Galley and they were married in 1977 in Virginia Beach. They recently celebrated their 44th anniversary.

During Tom’s military career he was stationed on numerous ships and shore installations in the United States. His honorable service included many awards and citations. Tom rose through the ranks to achieve the rank of a Senior Chief Petty Officer, MSCS(SW). He retired in 1997 with over 22 years of service.

Following his military career, Tom was a food service manufacturer, broker and supplier of provisions to the United States Military, continuing his passion of taking care of the fleet sailors and all branches of the military.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers Daniel Kuch, and Walter Parmentor.

Tom is survived by his wife Laura of Virginia beach, Virginia; son Stephan Kuch, of Asheboro, NC; daughter Jennifer Marques of Virginia Beach, Virginia; brother Frederick Charles Kuch of Saco, Maine; and sister Laura Lee (Parmentor) Perrier of Enfield, New Hampshire.

A Memorial Service will be held for the family and friends at Naval Air Station Oceana’s Chapel of the Good Shepherd (803 D Avenue, Building 330, Virginia Beach, Virginia) at 1000(10:00AM), 7August2021. Per Naval Installation rule; masks are required to be worn at all times when on the Naval Base. For those interested in contributing a floral arrangement please ensure they are sent to Altmeyer Funeral Home- Southside Chapel, 5033 Rouse Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23462. The family also welcomes in lieu of flowers donations, that can be made to the Navy Marine Corp Relief Society.
