Funeral Service

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Tina Renee Lassiter. Tina passed away peacefully on January 10, 2022 at her Chesapeake home while surrounded by her loving family.
Tina was born December 16, 1970 in Stigler, Oklahoma to Lester and Stella Perkins. While still a young child, she moved to the small town of Decatur, Texas. After graduating from high school in Decatur, Tina married and relocated to Germany. While there, she had her first son, Bradley, in 1989, and divorced in 1993. In 1991, Tina started college at Monterey Peninsula College, and after many life events, transferred to Tidewater Community College, proudly graduating summa cum laude with an Associate degree in Business Administration in 2013. She continued her educational pursuits at Regent University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in accounting in 2017.
In 1994, Tina met the love of her life, Ray Lassiter. After a two-year courtship, they married and  relocated to Chesapeake, Virginia following the end of Ray’s enlistment. She gained a daughter, Kelsey, from Ray’s previous marriage, and they were blessed with their twins, Denton and Dalton, in 2007.
Tina was a dedicated wife, mother, and trusted confidante to many. She always had a shoulder to cry on or an ear to listen to those who needed to talk. She immersed herself completely in her love for her family, treasuring her children and embracing every moment with them. Tina especially loved her role as a grandmother.
Tina’s passion for country western dancing was infectious—so much so that after a few sock-footed dance lessons in the kitchen, Tina and Ray were inseparable on the dance floor just as they were in life. Every holiday, her kitchen was bursting with everyone’s favorites, including stuffing, casseroles, and pies. There was never an empty stomach at the end of the day. She enjoyed watching soap operas, TV series, and movies.
Tina loved to travel with Ray and was always planning the next trip, seeking out any place with open skies. She earned her scuba certification vacationing in Jamaica, was a one-time bungee jumper, and visited family in Texas and Oklahoma at every opportunity. Along with their twins, Tina and Ray made road trips to North Carolina to visit Kelsey and grandkids, and they drove to the Grand Canyon and the Four Corners.
Tina had an entrepreneurial spirit and many vocational interests, with jobs that included owning and operating a residential cleaning company, working as a secretary and scheduling guru for the family electrical contracting company, and even, despite her petite frame, working as a licensed commercial truck driver. But achieving her goal of earning an accounting degree was her proudest moment. Over the past three-and-a-half years, Tina enjoyed her finance work with the nonprofit arts-in-education organization, Young Audiences of Virginia, Inc. Her dedication to the success of the organization was evident to all she encountered.
Tina was preceded in death by her parents, Lester Perkins and Stella Bryant; her sister, Polly Mooningham; and her niece, Aisha Bryant. She will be deeply missed by her husband, Ray Lassiter; her sons, Bradley (Crystal) Beasley, Dalton Lassiter, and Denton Lassiter; her stepdaughter, Kelsey (Kyle) Meek; her grandchildren, Bradley Jr., Brian, Clarence Jr., Emma, Levi, Madeline, and Penny; her sisters, Lue (Roger) Snider and Vicki (Brian) Nicely; her brothers, Chris Perkins, Dakota (Sandy) Perkins, Shannon Perkins, and Sid Bryant; and her 15 nieces and nephews.
Please join us in celebrating Tina’s life at her visitation and memorial service that will begin Saturday January 29 at 12 p.m. at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 929 S. Battlefield Blvd., in Chesapeake, Virginia. There will be a one hour visitation, with the memorial service beginning at 1pm, followed by a reception.
