Viola Bell Thomas, 92, of Norfolk passed away on May 8, 2021 at Sentara Leigh Hospital.

She was born April 16, 1930. She married Gordoner Thomas in 1948and celebrated 50 years of marriage until his death in 1998. She loved children and was a caretaker and nanny to many babies and toddlers throughout her life. She was also an avid reader, sometimes finishing a book a day, and had a sweet tooth for ice cream.

She is preceded in death by her husband Gordoner Thomas, daughter Esther Thomas and son Vincent Thomas.

She is survived by her daughter Christine Dwyer, son-in-law Bob Dwyer and grandchildren Reagan and Emerson Dwyer.

Visitation will be held on May 24 at 11:00 am at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5033 Rouse Drive in Virginia Beach. Funeral and burial services will follow at 12:45 pm at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, 6309 E. Virginia Beach Blvd. in Norfolk.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Viola B. Thomas to the Lake Taylor Transitional Care Hospital Foundation. The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the Dr. Kellam and the entire staff at Lake Taylor Hospital for making her final years enjoyable and comfortable.
