Virginia Dorothy Garrison

July 5, 1936 - May 6, 2020

Virginia Dorothy Garrison, 84, went home to be with Our Lord, Jesus Christ in
Virginia Beach, Virginia on May 6th 2020.
Virginia was born at Pearl River, New York to John James Bengen and Isabel
(MacDonald) Bengen. She was a graduate of Long Island College Hospital Nursing
School and the State University of NY at Old Westbury.

Virginia graduated Nursing School in 1957 and immediately went to work at Long
Island College Hospital as a nursing supervisor and a registered nurse, directly from
school. She married Elliott Garrison, of Bay Ridge, NY, the love of her high school
days in January 1957. She maintained her nursing licenses in the States of New
York and Pennsylvania until just recently. Virginia gave her life to Our Lord in
1970, and through those years grew to be a Godly woman, spreading the Gospel of
Jesus Christ, through her work as a nurse, and through her churches; Gospel
Community Church of Sayville, NY; Pleasant Valley Assembly of God, PA,; and
Wave Church, Virginia Beach, VA., and through everyday contact with people Our
Lord put in her path for them to hear the Word of God. Having the gift of prayer,
Virginia was a member of multiple prayer groups and bible study groups, spreading
her theological knowledge of the Holy Bible, and the words of Jesus Christ, and of
Our One True God.

Hobbies: In the 1970 – 1980’s Virginia, Elliott and their sons, John and Douglas
would go sailing on the Great South Bay on Long Island, it was an adventure and
fun to go on the sailboat every other weekend during the summer. Currently,
Virginia and Elliott would help make prayer shawls through the Pleasant Valley
Assembly of God in Pennsylvania, which were given to those who were sick. Their
shawl assembly continued even when they “snowbird’ed” in Virginia Beach, during
the winter months.

Virginia was preceded in leaving this Earth by her parents, her brother James
Bengen, her nephew Christopher Bengen, and her grandson, Michael Garrison.
Virginia leaves behind her husband Elliott of 63 years; her sons John and Douglas,
her granddaughters Megan, Nicole and Chelsea.

What our families say...

My family and I are grateful to Angie and the entire Altmeyer team for providing a thoughtful viewing and funeral service for my Auntie. They were kind and respectful through the entire process, listening attentively and carrying out our requests with compassion. Thank you for your help, but most importantly, thank you for your sincerity!
