Wesley Young Lammay

September 13, 1938 - August 3, 2020

09/13/1938 - 08/03/2020

Wesley Young Lammay, 81, went to be with the Lord on August 3, 2020. Wes was born to the late Alfred and Melissa Lammay on September 13, 1938 in Charleroi, Pennsylvania.

– 1956 graduation from Charleroi High School, in Charleroi, Pa.
– He worked for Pittsburgh Steel in their accounting department
– 1959 Met Marilyn his wife at a High School Youth for Christ meeting
– 1960 He and Marilyn married, member and leader of Pricedale Union Church youth group
– 1961 Bible quiz team coach for Youth for Christ and served as a Washington County Youth for Christ Board Member.  He was also a volunteer with Youth for Christ, doing youth “clubs” and “rallies” under Executive Director “Murf” Polan.
– 1963 He was asked by Murf and the Board to assume the Executive Director position when Murf took another assignment within Youth for Christ
– 1964 Wes and the Youth for Christ Board asked Murf to return to his former position with Wes serving as Director of Ministry and training of staff.  Working together, their Campus Life Clubs multiplied throughout Washington County, Pennsylvania, and beyond.  Many new staff members were added to the organization through God’s direction, under their leadership through the next 27 years.
– His ministry through those years was a gift from God, and an exciting adventure with a fantastic team of volunteers who were led by the Lord to serve the youth of Western Pennsylvania.
– Wes and the staff won national Bible quiz team and talent championships, and both Wes and Murf received Eastern Area Directors of the Year Awards through God’s grace and the work of many dedicated volunteer staff who cared deeply for the youth of the area. Most importantly, were the lives of the young people who were changed through the great work of God in this ministry.  Many of these young people went on to ministries of their own, and many more positively impacted the lives of others through their ministry.
– During these years he worked for Chartiers Houston high school as football team equipment manager and chaplain, he was asked to do Values Clarification classes for students in local middle schools, and was also a guest lecturer at California University of Pennsylvania on how teachers could best communicate with students in schools.  He was also asked to be the leader of the local minister’s Ministerium (interdenominational organization of local Christian ministers).  Wes also was asked to come to the Virginia Beach area to train church youth leaders in seminars.
– 1990 Called to head the Youth Ministry department at Kempsville Presbyterian Church in Virginia Beach, Virginia where he continued to serve the Lord for seven more years before retiring.
– 1997 Retirement from KPC
– He has gone to be with his Lord and will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends as he begins his new adventure with God.

Wes is preceded in death by his parents, Alfred Lammay and Melissa Young Lammay; sister, Della Lammay and his brother Alfred James Lammay.

He was a light in my life. He always sensed the hurt inside of me and would take the time to pray with me and remind me of the light that was inside of me that was Jesus Christ my savior. I will miss you and know you made a difference in my life like no other. I love you uncle Wes you will always be deep within my heart where you will be cherished forever

Wes Lammay led the Campus Life group that I attended through my years at Canon McMillan in the early 1970s. I, too, have nothing but fond memories of Wes and his strong faith, as well as his robust sense of humor. I was raised in a Christian household, but because of Wes, I learned how to live a faithful life without being judgmental or self-righteous. Thanks, dear friend, for your kindness and willingness to be a faithful role model.

I am thankful Mr. Lammay organized Powder Puff football at Chartiers-Houston High School. Despite the opposition I’m sure he faced from the school district, he made the team come together with the help of volunteers from the boys’ varsity team. Mr. Lammay understood that girls should play sports to learn self-esteem, teamwork, self-discipline and social skills, same as the boys. Every girl who played Varsity and Junior Varsity sports at Chartiers-Houston High School owes a debt of thanks to Wesley Young Lammay.
Matthew 25:21
His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’

May Mr. Lammay’s friends and family take comfort knowing he has entered into the Joy of the Lord.

I have nothing but fond memories of Wes. Having served with him on staff of SWAP, I have been richly rewarded as a result of my acquaintance and relationship with him. His love for youth and his desire to present Jesus to them was infectious. He exhibited a joy that reflected the kingdom of God, and you couldn’t be in his presence and not be impacted by it. I am so grateful that I was given the privilege to know him and serve with him. Thanks Wes for everything. Marilyn, Joan and I are praying for you and your family that God will strengthen and comfort you during this time. We send you our love.

I am so very grateful for Wes in my life. He was one of the first people in my life to show me how powerful it is to blend beliefs with everyday life and your own emotional life. He was, and continues to be even now, a powerful influence on my life. My thoughts and condolences to Marilyn, Wes and Jodee.

Wes was a truly remarkable man of God. I had the pleasure of being a student of Campus Life, where I accepted the Lord at Salt Fork. I then served with him many years as a volunteer staff for Canon Mac & Chartiers Houston. The Blessed times & memories are too many to list. Welcome Home good & faithful servant. Till we all meet again.

Wes was one of kind with a playful wit that would keep you on your toes. His love of God and family was his greatest joy. Such a privilege to have crossed paths with Wes on our life journey.
