KNOTTS ISLAND – Willis “Bill” Manliff Twiford, Sr., 88, passed away peacefully in his home on July 22, 2020. Bill was born on August 9, 1931 in Norfolk County, VA to the late Saint Clarence and Sabra Adeline Twiford. He was a veteran, having retired from the USCG with the rank of BMCM after 22 years of service. Bill went on to work for and retire from the Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority with 19 years of service. He was a member and former trustee of Knotts Island United Methodist Church. Bill loved bowling and wood working. He was predeceased by his children, Willis “Billy” Manliff Twiford, Jr., and Daren Monterey Twiford; siblings, Elizabeth Monterey Horneber, Grace Bernadette Sorey, Saint Clarence Twiford, Jr., and Janice Merle Twiford.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 46 years, Brenda Kay Davis Twiford; children, Dawn Michelle DeCaneo (Phil) of North Babylon, NY, Dana Marie Twiford of Fresno, CA, and Robert “Bobby” Francis Twiford (Donna) of West Babylon, NY; 7 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday at 12:00 pm at Knotts Island Community Cemetery with Rev. Diana Johnson and Rev. Frank Jennings officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Knotts Island United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 184, Knotts Island, NC 27950. The family would like to thank Community Home Care and Hospice for all the loving care they provided Bill and also to a very special friend Deann. Express condolences to the family below.

Brenda, so sorry to read of Bill’s passing. Just read in the Fall 2020 Long Blue Line. I was stationed with Bill @ Fifth District Office. NOTE: I am the son-in-law of the late Sam Keel.
