Zelma R. Fultz, 87, of Newport News, passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2017. Zelma was born June 14, 1929 in Harlan County Kentucky to the late John Carter and Sudie Deaton. In 1951 she married Stanley W. Fultz and moved to Newport News, Virginia. Zelma was an amazing and loving mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother that always put her family first. She chose motherhood over having a career outside of the home because it was important for her to teach her daughters: respect, modesty and manners. Zelma enjoyed her 10 plus years as a telephone operator for C&P Telephone Company, an active member of The Telephone Pioneers. As well as delivered Meals on Wheels, until she was no longer able to drive. Zelma is preceded in death by her husband, Stanley W. Fultz; 3 brothers, Darrell, Junior, Glenn; and sister, Wilma Goodwin. She is survived by her sister, Wanda Duncan; daughters, Paula Brown (Pennie), Sharon Leybold (Richard), Jennifer Christopher; grandchildren, Amy, Eric, Allison, Dillon, Mason, Samuel; and 3 great grand-children, Ryan, Drew and Owen. The Family will receive friends from 5pm-7pm tonight, April 28, 2017 at Riverside Altmeyer Funeral Home, 7415 River Rd, Newport News, VA.
