Condolences for R. Stuart Cake

Wanda Walton posted on 4/23/18

I want to extend my heartfelt sympathy to the family and wife of Stuart Cake. Stuart could talk to anyone about anything and was the epitome of friendliness and hospitality. I got to spend time with Stuart and Bet beginning when they first started dating and our time together was always filled with interesting conversation and laughter. I recall my family staying a few days at the cabins in Virginia Beach and mentioned to Bet that we would be going to several attractions. The next day Stuart showed up to the cabin with tickets for my entire family. That’s just one of many examples of the way Stuart cared for and loved his friends. Bet, I know that nothing was more precious to Stuart than you and your happiness and we are grateful for the many examples of unconditional love that Stuart showed to us all. I love you and I am praying for you and your family. Wanda Walton

It was with great sorrow that I found out about Stuart's passing. He and his belated mother Frances, were neighbors of mine in in the Thoroughgood neighborhood of Virginia Beach. He continued living there with his beloved wife Bet after their marriage. Stuart's mother was a customer and friend. Stuart would bring her up the block to have her hair done in my mother's garage converted beauty parlor. I would take my daughter to their home to trick or treat and Stuart was always jovial and happy to see us. I would run into him at the neighborhood Kroger and we would stand and talk and he would always make me laugh, with his puns! He introduced me to Bet on one of those Kroger encounters! My greatest condolences to you Bet and family. May his memory be eternal.

Stuart will be missed in a big way. He was a "light" wherever he went. You couldn't help but love him. I still remember he and my late husband exchanging funny stories/jokes. My prayers go out to Bet and family for comfort and peace. Remember him at his best and cherish his memories.

Stuart will be greatly missed. There was always lots of smiles and laughs when he was around. I can still remember he and my late husband exchanging funny stories/jokes. Bet, and family, my prayers go out to you for comfort and peace, but you know he would not want a bunch of sadness. Remember his at his best.

Please accept my heartfelt condolences in the death of Stuart. Bet, you and Stuart were some of mother's favorite people, and she always chuckled at Stuart's humor. You were both always thoughtful and kind to her, and for that I am grateful. Grieving is such an emotional experience, and though our faith journey teaches us to trust, it is a struggle to make your way. May God's perfect peace envelope you and strenghten you along this path.
