Hi, Mona. George and I, fellow Marines, taught together for many years at Oscar Smith HS. My son Owen was a Marine, too, and George and I talked fondly about our sons often, early in the morning before most of the faculty and staff arrived for the day. George was truly proud of Nick, and I know you miss them both. Take care, and semper fi, Tom Harleman.

Mrs. Sheperty, Just a quick note to let you know that you and your family will be in my prayers. I remember Nick as a student at Churchland Elementary. Nick also attended school and played baseball with my son, Stephen Holland and my husband coached the baseball team. I worked in the office at Churchland Elementary and got to know all 3 of your children and always enjoyed speaking with you when you would come to the office. We will continue to pray for you and the family. May the special memories of Nick carry you through this difficult time. Hugs to your family. Kathy Holland

I think you know that after getting to know my son “Mike” over the past week what an honor and privilege he felt to share the friendship and brotherhood he had with NICK. As a mother of a Green Beret I know the sacrifices and heartache the families of these young men endure. But, if not for their service where would this country be. We are so proud. More Americans should be paying attention. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I came across Nicholas’s obituary while reading the paper this morning. I also served in the Marines and in the Special Operations community. While I did not know him personally, I am certain he was a man of courage and integrity. I wanted to pay my respects as a fellow warrior, and thank him and his family for his selfless service to our great country. I am sorry for your loss and I thank you for allowing him to serve. Respect. Semper Fi
