On behalf of the Virginia Transportation Construction Alliance, we send our warmest thoughts and condolences. Many of us worked closely with John during his time with the Virginia Asphalt Association. He was a true professional and a valued business partner. His warm smile and wry sense of humor will be missed.

Dear Moya, We are so sorry to hear about the passing of John. I have so many great memories of times spent with John - sharing an apartment together at VT, fishing trips, playing sports together, visiting you & John in Hawaii, both of our weddings & many more. He was a great person whose company I always enjoyed. I know he was a really good husband, father & grandfather who will be missed very much by all of you. Cherish the wonderful memories you all have of him. We wish you & your family happy days ahead remembering John as the terrific person he was. Our best wishes to you and your family.

Moya, I am so sorry to hear about John. Whenever I think about him, I remember a really nice guy who was always a true gentleman. I remember how enjoyable it was to socialize and play basketball/softball with him in the 1970s and 1980s. In more recent years, I would run into him occasionally at transportation conferences and relish the opportunity to catch up with him. He was a person who left a favorable impression on everyone he met. You, Kerry and Jeremy are in my thoughts and prayers.

To all of the Roland Family - I am so sorry to read of the passing of John. John was always a pleasant and welcoming face to see in Virginia at the Asphalt Association Meetings. When he retired, I did miss seeing him at the meetings as he was always one that would not miss saying hello. Keeping you all in my prayers. God definitely received one of the good guys into heaven with John!

My condolences to the Roland family. I met John when I started with the State Water Control Board in the early 1970's. He was a coworker and a friend. He had a good personality that made him a pleasure to work with. My thanks to Moya for keeping us posted on his health.

I worked with John, and in fact, reported to him at one point. He was intelligent, kind, genuine, witty and indeed displayed the utmost integrity. My deepest sympathy to Moya and all the family. May God comfort each one as you grieve this deep loss. Zelda Hardy
