John and I started working at Eagle Systems in Virginia Beach on the same day back in 1990. Over the many years that we worked together there, John became one of my closest friends and associates. We frequently checked each others work products and I always appreciated his professionalism, attention to detail, and his frank and honest commentary. More importantly, however, were the many times we simply sat and talked about our lives, our faith, and our families. He was so proud of his sons, John and David, and absolutely loved to brag about them and their families. He was devoted to his wife, Mary, and was in every sense of the term a true Christian gentleman. He will be missed. My prayers and deepest sympathy go out to the McLain family.

John was a very bright student at Auburndale High School and I was one of his many friends. John and I wrote a history of Auburndale based upon the memories of “old timers” still alive in 1960. John was a great organizer and a great high school friend. It is sadness that we lost touch with each other as I missed the development and accomplishments of his life with career, family, and friends. All of us in Auburndale realize the great loss of a wonderful human being.

I got to know John as we would often pass on the streets of our neighborhood walking our dogs. Through our meetings it was so easy to see that John was a kind soul who dearly loved his wife, his family and his beagle Gus. He will be missed by his neighbors and fellow dog walkers. My wishes for peace and healing to the family.

John and Mary have been special to our family for the past 14 years. They have shared our children's graduations, birthdays, weddings, grandchildren bring born, special family celebrations and holiday dinners. We all are heartbroken, will miss John dearly, the grandchildren across the street are extra sad but know he is in heaven. Derek, Teresa and Jacob along with their families have been checking in from last weekend to this week with stories, thoughts of John and Mary. What a strong loving faithful man he was and our thoughts and prayers are with Mary, her sons, their families and his extended family. Blessing and Love to you all.
