Condolences for Irwin Jerry Epstein

C. J. White, Jr. posted on 1/5/21

Although I barely remember Mr. Epstein, I feel as though he was a distant relative. My father Columbus J. White, Sr. worked at Toppers for years, as far back as when they were on Granby St., downtown Norfolk. Although I found this obituary late, I just wanted to pay a tribute and hope that the family is doing well at this time. I remember the names of both the Epstein's and the children's names from dad when he was working at the store at Southern Shopping Center. I remember the time they loaned us the old Oldsmobile station wagon when our car was in the shop. Really nice people.

We cruised in the red Cutlass convertible, then Bessie & the Celica. I can still see him sleeping on your den couch with his tie still on when we came in late at night. We shared the ups and downs of UVA sports, golf stories and he was a great buddy for my dad in their twilight years. Jerry, you’re a class act “Babe”! We love you.

Lance and Ronnie, very sorry. Both your Mother and Father were great people. I spoke to him at Costco a couple of years ago. Still the same.
