Because Joe's mother and mine were best friends from their high school days, I have known Joe for many years. He was kind and quiet with a ready smile. Bill and I will be praying for comfort for you, Dawn, and all of your family. Please let Steve know we are thinking of him too.

We are so sorry for the loss in the family. Thoughts and prayers going out to everyone. I’ve known Michelle since middle school and have enjoyed getting to know him more as I grew up as well. He has always been so kind and his smile and laugh lights up a room. He will always have a special place in my heart and will be truly missed. ❤️

Dawn, Joe and Michelle, so sorry to hear of Joe's passing. I first met Joe in 1969 when he was in Substation and I was in Relay. We quickly became friends. I valued Joe's friendship and opinions as much as any one I worked with at Dominion. He will be missed.

My condolence to the family. Met Joe at the gym, enjoyed talking with him about bees and his many hobbies. He will truly be missed by me and his many friends. .

My deepest sympathy for your loss. Joe was a good friend from Dominion having worked off and on with him since 1977 building Fentress substation, and more frequently the last couple of years before he retired. A friend, always ready to lend a helping hand and offer support. He will be missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.

My memories of Mr. Nicolay will be filled with his kind smile and wave, from atop his big tractor, doing what he loved as he tends to his garden and his yard and his bees. All my sympathies to the Nicolay family.

Oh so sorry to hear the news. From the Vepco Fairmount Park days forward, I always found Joe to be a person to respect. He always put the his faith and his family first, then gave his all to his profession.. There may not be any substations in heaven buy I expect Joe's reward will include honeybees and bluegrass music.. Rest in peace my friend.
