Dave I just learned of the death of Kay. I am so very sorry for you and your family. It was evident from the way you spoke of her at work that she was someone extra special. I will pray for all of you to heal and be peaceful. Please consider yourself as getting a big hug from me. Take care my friend.

Dear Dave, Henry, Hunt, and Lily: I'm deeply saddened to hear of Kay's illness and passing. Even though we haven't been in touch in person, I have been staying up to date with your family over the years either via a couple of phone calls to Kay after leaving Boston or via Facebook. I will miss her sweet comments on my posts and sharing with her my fond memories of my short time working with all of you. Spending the year in Boston, working with your family, was one of my favorite times of my early 20s. Not only was it so fun to be with all of you, I learned life lessons!! After returning to Indiana, getting married, and having children - I often thought of what I learned from helping care for Henry and Hunt. For example, don't EVER forget to pack extra favorite sleep/soothing toys for babies! I'll never forget the phone call from Kay when she was traveling by plane with Henry and Hunt. She frantically asked, "Did you pack an extra doggy?" -- I think that's what we called them (i.e. the red doggies Hunt slept with) -- And I said, "No, I just sent the one with you." Immediately after that response, she shared that she was juggling Hunt and his doggie in the plane's restroom when all of a sudden the doggie fell in the plane's toilet!! She kindly shared with me never forget to pack more than one of any item that is used to soothe babies -- or something like this could happen -- and then what!? Oh, how I felt awful for Kay (and Hunt) because that little red doggie had been ruined. Hunt loved them so much and it would quiet him almost immediately. Thankfully, if I recall, she was able to find a solution -- Kay and Hunt were able to sleep. To this day, although my children are nearly 18 and 16, I still have the girls pack extras of anything that is as important as Hunt's red doggies!!! The service on Saturday was beautiful. Sending my love and deepest condolences to all of you. May you find comfort in all the wonderful memories of an amazing mother, wife, friend, and inspiring woman. With love, Kate Ryan Shively

I have so many fond memories of Kay but her humor stands out. Her funny emails after our USTA tennis matches were priceless. She was fearless as our 2.5 team captain and totally crushed the job of captain which surprises no one I’m sure. Rest In Peace Kay. You will be missed.

Kay's presence at Dollar Tree will be dearly missed. She was committed and I could always count on her on-point professional guidance. Personally, I will miss her sharp wit and our ongoing attempts to one-up each other with a well-timed quip. One memory I will never forget: when traveling out of town on business, Kay and I went to dinner and she had the rental car so she drove. After dinner we returned to the car to find that Kay had left the car running the entire time we were having dinner. I never let her forget that one. Please accept my sincere condolences for Kay's entire family in this difficult time.

I am so sorry for Kay’s family. Her husband and children and the folks I knew growing up — her mom and dad (Henry and Marnie), Robbie and Coke. Most of all of course I remember Kay unique qualities: Funny, spirited, zany, strawberry blonde, smart as hell, leader, tricky, kind, light up the room, human decency. Rest In Peace to one of the greats.
