Condolences for Shirley H. Saunders

Shirley was like an older sister, a second mother and best friend. We talked once or twice a week sharing everything from health, family and local news. She kept me informed on who had passed, married, divorced, etc. I grew up 1 mile from her on Campbell Landing Rd. Her family was always my family. They say you can never go home again. After my mother passed away i still felt I could always "go home" again as long as Shirley was there. And I did until health issues became a problem for traveling. We spent many, many Christmas days at her house. Shirley is the only person I know who never expressed a negative thought about anyone. She enjoyed her friends, family and her church. She especially enjoyed Preacher John's visits when he came for coffee (usually making it himself). She reared two exceptional sons - so much to be proud of. I will miss her and love her everyday forever and will miss not being able to attend her funeral. But I know she would understand. Her friends will miss seeing her out working in her yard with her walker no less. What a gal! Love and prayers to Donnie, Mike and family.

Romans 8 14For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. 14For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. 15The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father." 15For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” 16The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children. 16The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17Now if we are children, then we are heirs--heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory. One of God's children has been called HOME. Praise the Lord.

Shirley was like family to me and my family. I enjoyed spending many holidays and beach vacations with Shirley. Sadly, COVID has kept me from seeing her for the last two years. I will miss her calls, letters and visits with her. I am so sorry I will not be able to attend the services. Shirley was loved very much by me and my parents and my children. Please accept my deepest sympathy for this great loss of your mother and grandmother.

I’m going to miss our phone calls. You were so faithful to call every other week. It was always good talking to you. I always reminded you that you didn’t need to be outside working, but I know you always loved working outside. Love your sister-in-law. Linda Hall
