Condolences for Donald Manlove

I was shocked & saddened to learn of Don's passing. How fortunate to have had dinner with you, Don, & Gug on my visit to Hammock Beach 2 years ago. I absolutely regaled with envy listening to Don's experiences as a Navy flyer, as well as remembering our Albright football days. While a lot of us old golfers say, "we are on the back nine, we just don't know which hole," the actual reality of it makes it no less devastating. At our age, I cannot imagine the despair of losing your life partner & soul mate at such a young age- & I say that even after having lost a son some 17 years ago! Our hearts & prayers go out to your & your family. May God grant us all the strength & courage to accept His will. Bob & Marianne Kopp

Dear Jane and Family, Don was a one of kind guy that will be missed by all of us. We were VF-102 Diamondbacks together for three years, and roommates in a six (6) man bunkroom for two (2) cruises; one being a combat cruise to Vietnam. We shared the good and bad in life during those times. He was a Brother Warrior, unmatched in his Bravery and Professionalism. We also crossed paths in VF-103 and VF-11, and served together on the AIRLANT staff. He as a RAG instructor in VF-101 and was highly respected throughout the Fighter Community as one of the "Best-of-the-Best"! Don will be missed by all of us, but I know someday we will see each other again. God Bless you and your family Jane, Joe and Janet Findley

CDR Manlove and I served together aboard USS Independence (CV 62) in the 80's. He was the CIC Officer and I was an OS 3 and 2 while he was there. I recall standing watch with him many times and being on the radio with him while he performed RIO duties in an F-4 or 14 while I provided air intercept control from the ship. He was a consummate professional. A shipmate, and still dear friend of mine, has a photo of himself having his third class crow pinned by CDR Manlove. He was a respected, excellent officer who had no problem cokin' and jokin' with the troops. I and my Indy shipmates will raise a glass to him at our next annual Veterans Day gathering in Tampa. Fair winds Sir.

Sandi and I send our heartfelt condolences and prayers to Don's family, especially wife Jane who has been such a good friend of ours along with Don through the last 30+ years. Don and I played our last golf game at a James River CC tournament this summer and were already planning two get togethers in the spring in FL. Don was an early member of the INRI team and was instrumental in helping to establish the company in its infancy. Through the years he was my partner in business, golf, and life in general. Even after retirement we kept in contact and continued to share life adventures through the years. I will sincerely miss my partner and our lively discussions about our families and plans for the future. I have never known someone with such a positive attitude and love of life. In his own unassuming way he made such a difference in the lives of so many of the INRI staff. I felt I could trust Don with my most private feelings and thoughts. Friends such as Don do not come along too often in life. This was so sudden that we all are still processing this tragic event that took one of our loved ones too early. Again our prayers for the family. We know Don is in a good place. Love Frank and Sandi

Don did not have a machiavelan bone in his body. What you saw is what you got. Underneath that tough, no nonsense and not very sentimental exterior i found him to be very loving and caring. He not only loved and cherished Jane and all the kids, he also liked them! He was friendly and loyal even to some of us with quirky personalities. It also speaks volumes of an individual that was so good to animals. He so loved and cared for his pets except perhaps for Janie's dog ,Tara, whom essentially did nothing except take up space. Ms. Effie is right, he was taken too soon. We can take comfort in that his last e-mail to me just a few weeks ago was a rallying cry to defend the faith on which this country was founded. He's in heaven probably convincing Peter and Paul about the benefits of heaven going digital and starting a full tackle football league, (no pads). He's gone for now but never forgotten. He will be missed by us all. Our hearts and love go out to Jane and the family. Don and Joyce Sogga

Don was a true and loyal friend. For three years we shared either a junior officer bunk room aboard the America or stateroom on the Independence. We played baseball and football together in backyard brawls sometimes with fellow Diamondbacks. He helped make my Navy experiences so special and long lasting. Recently, we had the opportunity to work with Tom Wilber in his inspiring effort to find the remains of Bernie Rupinski and it rekindled my admiration for his dedication to his friends, family and country. We have lost a great one and my heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family and friends. Three vollies for Don; Duty, Honor, Country.
